Straight about what it does and doesn't do
The Sea Pool is a physical barrier and a defined swim area. It's not a substitute for supervision or common sense on the water.
What it does
- A defined swim area. Creates an enclosed space right off your stern, so everyone swims together and stays within sight of the boat.
- A physical barrier. Premium steel-core netting, 2 metres deep on every side with a full net floor, sits between swimmers and larger marine life.
- No drifting off. Swimmers can't be carried away from the boat by current or tide while they're inside the pool.
- One area to watch. The person on watch has a single, clearly bounded area to supervise from the boat or the deck.
- A stable way in and out. A seating deck at the boat end, grab handles and the rope boarding ladder supplied with every pool.
What it doesn't do
- It isn't shark-proof. It's a precautionary barrier, not a guarantee. No product can honestly promise protection from every marine animal.
- It doesn't stop small marine life. Jellyfish, stingers and small fish can pass through the mesh. An optional stinger liner can be purchased to fit inside the net, or wear a stinger suit in season.
- It doesn't replace supervision. A responsible adult should watch swimmers at all times.
- It isn't a lifesaving device. Non-swimmers and young children should wear an approved lifejacket or swim aid inside the pool.
- It isn't for rough conditions. Don't use it in surf, swell, strong current, storms or poor visibility.
- The float isn't a seat. Only the seating deck is for sitting. No standing, jumping or diving.
Designed in
- Mesh opening
- 80 mm squares, about 75 mm clear, below the 89 mm head-entrapment range used in the Australian playground standard (AS 4685). The net hangs square, so openings hold their shape.
- No under-deck space
- Along the deck, the net hangs from the deck's inside edge, so no one can surface under the platform.
- No square inside corners
- The far inside corners are cut diagonally, so swimmers can't get pinned into a corner.
- Smooth fittings
- Clips with no finger-sized gaps, flush drink-holder rims and a bound-in leadline with no droppers.
- Deck rating
- 3 seated adults on the 6 x 5 deck and 2 on the 4 m decks. Ratings will be confirmed by load testing on the prototype.
Every time you use it
- An adult watches the swimmers the whole time
- Engine off and props clear whenever the pool is attached
- Follow SharkSmart advice: no swimming near berley, bait or fish cleaning, or at dawn and dusk
- Don't use it in big swell, strong current or poor visibility
- Check the net and clips before each use
