About

Designed and perfected in Port Lincoln for the way Australians boat

Sea Pools is a small South Australian business making one thing well: a protective swimming enclosure that ties to the back of your boat, so you can get in and enjoy the ocean wherever you anchor.

Why I built it

Built for my family first

Some of our best memories as a family have been made on the water. As a dad of three young girls who love the ocean, I wanted a way to give them an added layer of protection while they swim, without taking away the experience of being out in the open sea.

The Sea Pool is the result: a protective swim enclosure that comes with us to whichever bay we anchor in. I built it for my own family first, and I want other families and boating communities to enjoy the same peace of mind on the water.

Who's behind it

An enclosure builder and marine engineer

Sea Pools was created by Seaga Austin, a marine engineer and marine surveyor with more than 25 years in the marine industry. His career has taken him from commercial diving to marine engineering and vessel surveying, giving him a hands-on understanding of how equipment performs, and fails, in real sea conditions.

Seaga is also the founder of Oceanic Barriers, where he and his team design, construct, install and maintain swimming enclosures for councils, including the public enclosure at the Ceduna Town Jetty. The Sea Pool brings that same experience to a design that fits the back of your boat.

Designed by people who build swimming enclosures for a living, and who spend their working lives on boats.

How it's made

Simple parts, done properly

Engineered first

Every model starts as a full set of engineering drawings, prepared by a qualified marine engineer and surveyor. Before anything is made, we work through:

  • Buoyancy: enough lift in the float and deck to carry the net, the lead line and a full seated load, with plenty in reserve.
  • Freeboard: how high the deck sits with adults on it, so it stays comfortable to sit on and stable to step across to.
  • Net drop: the net hangs from the deck's inside edge, so swimmers can't get under the platform and legs stay inside the pool.
  • D-ring spacing: close enough to keep the headrope straight and the net hanging square on every side.
  • Tie-off loads: the rings, webbing and patches are sized for the pull of the pool in wind and current.

Then the prototype goes in the water off Port Lincoln to check the numbers before a production run is ordered.

Premium net, hand slung in Port Lincoln

We use premium-grade predator netting, the type used to keep predators out of fish farms. It's 2.1 mm netting in 80 mm squares, and every strand has a single 0.6 mm stainless steel wire core running through it. It comes in by the bale, then every net is stitched and hand slung here in Port Lincoln, hung square on its headrope with a lead line round the bottom. Lead-cored rope is stitched in at key locations so the net sits down and holds its shape in the water.

A float built to our drawings

Drop-stitch construction with 0.9 mm PVC and fully welded seams, made by a specialist inflatables manufacturer to our design, with two separate chambers and fill points side by side.

How we do business

Honest and transparent from day one

  • No shark-proof claims. The Sea Pool is a physical barrier that keeps the bigger stuff outside and everyone together. No product can promise more than that.
  • Tested before it's sold. Prototype trials happen off Port Lincoln first, and add-ons like the Deterrent Pods won't go on sale until our own testing is done.
  • Your deposit is safe. In the unlikely event that a production run doesn't go ahead, your deposit is refunded in full.
  • A real person to talk to. Questions go to the people who design and build the pools.
